Many people in Germany receive actually so called Cease and Desist Letters (German: „Abmahnung“) from lawfirms like Sasse und Partner, Waldorf Frommer or Rasch Rechtsanwälte for example. The opposing party – a copyright holder which is being represented by these specialized law firms – claims that the receiver of the cease and desist letter have infringed and/or offended the German Copyright Act (“Urheberrechtsgesetz” – UrhG). They claim that the subscribers have either downloaded a copyright protected file from the internet and/or have made available such file for download in the internet.
No money? What can you do in this case of a warning letter?
If you are eligible for legal aid (for example social welfare, unemployment benefits, Hartz IV, penniless student) you can apply for legal aid at the office in your local court. Once we have received the documents we can proceed with your representation and issue the respective documents.
